Pancharevo is a small village, located 12 km from the centre of Sofia. Its famous with its mineral water resources and the lake nearby. The oldest hydroelectric power station in Bulgaria and on the Balkans was built there in year 1900. It operated until 1980 and few years later it was declared a monument of culture. Nowadays there is an idea to renew it and make an ecology park and exposition next and on to it. On one of the banks of the lake you can see the wall of the dam.
Kambanite monument is located in a picturesque area nearby the Sofia botanical garden. It was finished in 1979 when Bulgaria was still a part of the communist block. The idea behind it was to make a monument to all the children of the world. In 1989 was the last assembly and few years ago major Bulgarian companies donated money and effort to renovate the place.
Vitosha mountain is one of the treasures of Sofia and it is hosting one of the oldest natural parks on the Balkans. The nature reserve was founded in 1934 by decree coming from the former tsar of Bulgaria - Boris III. There is a biosphere forest reserve and turf forest reseve, as well as one natural landmark - Duhlata cave. One of the attractions there is the so called moraines "Golden bridges". The stone rivers (also known as moraines) and the screes are typical for the Vitosha Park. The stone river in the locality of The Golden Bridges (1,390 meters altitude) is impressive. There are many tourist paths in this part of the mountain: leading to the Kopitoto peak, “Momina Skala” hut and “Septemvri” hut. The Golden Bridges is one of the most often used starting points for Charni Vrah peak (2,290 meters altitude) - the highest one in the mountain.
A stunning panorama opens when you pass by the old abbandoned lift station. From Kopitoto peak you can see the majority of Sofia below your feet.
