Medina is the "old city" (in Arabic "medina" means "city"). It covers an area of 600 hectares. It is the historical center of the city and of traditional trade and crafts. The walls surrounding the heart of the pearl in the south have a height of between 8 and 10 meters and a total circumference exceeding 19 km. Over 40,000 artisans work there, distributed in different thematic parts, shaping the look of the medina.
